CSV coordinates to KML: map placemarks for Google Earth
Searching for Excel to KML almost always means you have a spreadsheet with latitude and longitude (stores, sites, sensors) and want it as placemarks in Google Earth or Google My Maps. This tool reads the name, lat, lng and description columns of a CSV and emits a standard KML 2.2 file - download it and open it in Google Earth, or import it straight into Google My Maps.
Input format: the first row must be a header with at least name, lat and lng, plus an optional description. Use decimal degrees (for example 39.9054 / 116.3976), not degrees-minutes-seconds; column names are case-insensitive (name or Name, lat or Lat, lng/Lng/Lon).
Common pitfalls: swapped coordinates - KML writes them as longitude,latitude, and so does this tool, so put longitude in the lng column; out-of-range values (latitude within 90, longitude within 180) - those rows are skipped and reported in the result; blank rows or merged cells - re-save as CSV first; angle brackets and ampersands in descriptions are escaped automatically, so the XML stays valid.
